FireMon today announced that its market leading Intelligent Security Management, which helps organizations worldwide centrally manage their on-premises firewalls, is available for cloud and native cloud firewalls. From traditional, on-premises or cloud firewalls such as Juniper Networks®, Palo Alto Networks® or Cisco®, to native cloud security controls like Amazon Web Services, regardless of what an enterprise’s security environment looks like, FireMon can manage it.
In its recent State of the Firewall Report, a global benchmarking study of over 400 organizations’ security infrastructures, FireMon found that cloud adoption is now the norm, but some questions still remain about who manages the cloud. For example, 90 percent said they had adopted a cloud solution, but for more than one third of respondents, responsibility for cloud security falls outside of security operations, which adds an extra layer of complexity to security management.
“Cloud environments face many of the same threats as traditional enterprise networks, but due to the vast amount of data stored on cloud servers, cloud services become an even more attractive target for a breach or attack,” said Jody Brazil, co-founder and Chief Product Strategist for FireMon. “What many organizations don’t realize is that while cloud providers typically deploy security controls to protect their own environments, ultimately it is the organization’s responsibility to protect their own data.
“In the process of deploying public and private cloud services, businesses are discovering new challenges in visibility, scalability and control of their hybrid cloud environments that impact their ability to mitigate risk and keep up with business agility and demands.”
FireMon’s Intelligent Security Management platform can help due to its flexibility to allow the same infrastructure-independent, single-pane monitoring and analysis that enables organizations to manage their on-premises security policies to be easily extended to support any hybrid cloud implementation. The platform is built to scale to meet the needs of the environment, no matter how simple or sophisticated. Furthermore, with FireMon’s acquisition of 40Cloud, a Cloud Infrastructure Security Broker, last year, organizations with multiple cloud environments can securely connect them to each other and apply a single security policy across them, rather than reset individual policies for each.
FireMon partners with the industry’s leading firewall vendors including Check Point® Software, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, Fortinet® and Juniper Networks, and it can manage native, embedded security infrastructure in public and private clouds such as AWS Security Groups and VMWare NSX™ Distributed Firewalls.

FireMon is previewing its Intelligent Security Management (ISM) platform in Booth #S1121 at the RSA Conference in San Francisco this week. ISM helps companies gain visibility into their complex security infrastructures and operate more proactively to both prevent and detect potential breaches.
Enterprise security teams face a number of pressures to keep up with the speed of business, manage more advanced threats and adhere to increasingly strict compliance demands. In response, they have invested in more and more point solutions and as well as the staff to manage them. Gartner estimated IT security spending reached 81.6 billion in 2016. However, breaches are more prevalent than ever with 1,093 security incidents disclosed in the U.S. alone last year.
FireMon ISM addresses the gap created by the need to manage security technology and the staff available to deliver that management. ISM provides benchmarking, simulation, analysis and automation tools that enable organizations to manage and adapt their environment in a more cost effective, proactive manner.
“With the speed of business accelerating, the complexity of security infrastructure multiplying and the severity of cyber threats increasing, security teams are struggling to keep up,” said Michael Callahan, Chief Marketing Officer at FireMon. “FireMon is turning security management on its head and helping customers control their security destinies with Intelligent Security Management.”
Anchored by its policy management platform, Security Manager, and its security analytics platform, Immediate Insight, FireMon enables users to plan and monitor the security policies intended to prevent breaches as well as identify and remediate threats as identified by security alert data.
Four applications of Intelligent Security Management will be on display in FireMon’s booth at the RSA Conference:

  • Intelligent Policy Automation (IPA) FireMon’s industry-leading change automation framework that allows users to quickly and securely automate the entire change management process, including pushing policy to Palo Alto Networks Panorama.™ IPA also allows users to simulate the impact of changes on security and compliance prior to implementation.
  • Hybrid Cloud Management – Infrastructure-independent policy monitoring and analysis capabilities for cloud solutions such as Amazon Web Services, including: centralized, integrated security infrastructure analysis across traditional and cloud-based network controls, detailed policy visualization for Virtual Private Connection and tenant instances and cloud security configuration change notifications.
  • Risk Simulator – A simulation of attack scenarios against assets, including a visualization of the attack path through a network and the resulting remediation recommendations for firewall policies to block access to the host.
  • Advanced Incident Response – FireMon’s security analytics platform Immediate Insight streamlines data orchestration, automation and analytics, transforming complex, disparate and unstructured data – including data from Palo Alto Networks AutoFocus™ – into immediately actionable intelligence.

Network security policy management providers Firemon has announced its largest bookings quarter in history as well as an impressive 53% growth in new customers over Q2 2016.
Year-to-date renewal rates topped 90%, which the company attributes to an increased focus on customer success that resulted in an industry-leading 96% customer satisfaction rating.
“The success we achieved this quarter highlights the execution capabilities of the high-performance FireMon team as they focus on solving customer problems,” said Satin H. Mirchandani, who was appointed CEO this September. “Our customers are faced with daunting security management challenges that increase exponentially as they move to new platforms such as cloud and SDN. Our solutions address this challenge head on, and our position in the industry is a direct reflection of that.”
FireMon made two additional executive hires in the third quarter. Blue Coat veteran, Kurt Mills joined the team as VP of Worldwide Channels and former CISO at Surescripts, Paul Calatayud, joined as CTO. Last week, they announced the acquisition of cloud infrastructure security broker FortyCloud, which expands FireMon’s cloud security solutions.
FireMon also announced its standard-setting vision for Intelligent Policy Automation (IPA). Recognising the failures in change management solutions today, FireMon’s IPA framework provides context for access requests to help system administrators and network engineers more effectively implement changes that best enable the business without introducing new risk. To date, customers leveraging the IPA framework have reduced the time to complete a change, and more completely understand the risk associated with the change, by more than 90%.
FireMon closed the quarter with another feather in its cap, taking home the Enterprise Security Solution of the Year at the Computing Security Awards in London for its Security Manager platform.

FireMon, a Network Security Policy Management (NSPM) provider, today announced its acquisition of FortyCloud, a field-proven cloud infrastructure security broker. The move advances FireMon’s cloud management capabilities across all major cloud platforms providing a comprehensive view and consistent control of the complex hybrid environments enterprises must manage.
According to Gartner’s 2017 Planning Guide for Cloud Computing, “Through 2020, 95% of cloud security issues will be the organization’s fault, not the cloud provider’s.” FireMon recognizes that managing the complexity of today’s networked environments is not always straightforward as they consist of a variety of disparate technologies and security controls in the cloud and on premise. The report goes on to say, “Inadequate security practices can quickly turn an otherwise well-intentioned cloud initiative into a massive disaster for an organization.”
The company’s acquisition of FortyCloud addresses this market need by providing solutions to help effectively secure cloud infrastructure and make the transition to the cloud simpler by extending security and connectivity to the public cloud.
“Our customers are at varying points on their journey of implementing public and hybrid cloud strategies,” said Satin H. Mirchandani, CEO, FireMon. “While the security needs are very similar in cloud infrastructure and on-premise networks, the technology implementations can be very different.  FireMon intelligent security management solutions allow the network and security teams to quickly deliver the capabilities the business demands to stay competitive.”
In addition to the strategic importance of cloud security technologies, it’s critical to have a team and solutions that have proven successful in real-world environments.
“One of the most impressive aspects of the FortyCloud technology is the customer and market acceptance,” said Jody Brazil, co-founder and chief product strategist, FireMon.  “The FortyCloud team has built a great, multi-cloud security solution that is being used by many large and complex global organizations.  We look forward to working with them to further advance the great solutions they’ve already produced.”
With the addition of FortyCloud to its suite of products, FireMon will support:

  • Native cloud awareness to enhance management capabilities
  • Cloud discovery and automated security group mapping
  • Security object abstraction across the enterprise and multiple cloud environments
  • Automation of security enforcement in multi-cloud environments

“I’ve been very impressed with the entire FireMon team and am very excited to work with the leading global NSPM vendor,” said Amir Naftali, CTO and co-founder, FortyCloud. “We look forward to sharing our solution with FireMon’s 1,000+ customers and continuing to expand our vision of securing the public cloud.”
FireMon’s Intelligent Security Management solutions are a complete package of policy and risk analysis, automated change management and security analytics and monitoring. It does this in a single platform that gives security professionals a centralized view of the traffic, rule usage and changes happening across the environment.

A new study of nearly 600 IT practitioners by FireMon called the 2016 State of the Firewall Report has shown that while respondents recognise that the firewall needs to evolve, it still remains a central part of today’s security infrastructure.  Emerging infrastructure paradigms such as Software Defined Networking (SDN), cloud and micro-segmentation will drive this evolution.  In fact, 90 percent of respondents recognised that SDN has impacted or will impact networks, pointing to an important shift in the way they are secured.  And over two thirds said that firewalls were critical to securing their cloud services.
Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) represent at least 50 percent of current firewall infrastructure in nearly half of the organisations surveyed compared to 34 percent in 2015. Only 6.7 percent of organisations have no NGFWs.
“We’re seeing small shifts in IT professionals’ perceptions of the firewall as new technologies enter the market,” said Jody Brazil, co-founder and Chief Product Strategy Officer at FireMon. “Adoption of SDN and network virtualisation in general won’t decrease the need for firewalls, but it may open the door to advancements or a new category of network protection. It will be more of a continuous evolution rather than a complete upheaval as so many are quick to claim.”
