Whether you have an interest in technology or not, you’re probably already of AI technology and how it has evolved over recent years. In fact, many of us use AI every day without even realising it or taking it for granted because it feels as though it has always been there. However, actually, AI technology has improved so much over recent years which means that more and more sectors are starting to take advantage of it. 2022 was a big year for AI technology but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen all the advancements we’re likely to see instead we should be expecting big things from AI technology in 2023 and beyond.

Which Industries Are Able to Make Use of AI Technology?

Although pretty much any industry can make use of AI technology in some respect, there are sectors where it is more popular than others. That doesn’t mean that this won’t change in the future, but it is these sectors that we’re likely to see the most growth in terms of AI technology next year.

Transportation – It is easy to assume that things like self-driving cars are something that we can only expect in the distant future, but actually they’re much nearer than we think. They have actually been around since 2015, but it is thought that by 2025 they’ll be much more popular in the mainstream. Of course, it isn’t just self-driving cars that we’re seeing the use of this sort of technology; the technology within cars is improving with things like frost detection and even computer technology that tells us when something has gone wrong with the car.

Entertainment and Gaming – The gambling industry is one that uses AI in a variety of ways, including for security, making it safer for users when they play at a fast withdrawal casino. Confidence within the gambling industry is key for websites that want to do well, so those that make use of AI technology in the most efficient ways tend to do well. Gaming is also taking advantage of this with things like Virtual Reality gaming and life-like avatars that are helping to bring games to life.

Healthcare – We might be a long way off from robots carrying out surgery, but there have definitely been some advances in terms of IBM’s cognitive supercomputer diagnosing problems that doctors have previously missed. Even things like electronic healthcare records and cross-referencing data have come on leaps and bounds over recent years.

Finance – Anti-money laundering is a big deal across many industries, and being able to become more efficient and accurate within this is a must. There are many different sectors that make use of this so the fact that there is now automated technology that can do things like detect fraudulent transactions really does help.

Technology – The technology industry in general is one that has benefited from artificial technology in many ways. Whether this is the improvement of things in terms of manufacturing or simply in what it can offer customers, we’ve seen some growth of AI take-up within the technology sector that isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.

What Improvements Will it Help With?

Businesses being able to run efficiently as possible is essential for businesses across all sectors; after all, how can you expect your business to be successful if you’re not running a tight ship? The great thing about being able to use artificial technology is that it tends to be efficient and consistent – which is great for all industries.

Transportation – Self-driving cars could certainly make life easier in the future. However the detection of car problems and even more efficient journey planning are all areas we could see improvements in throughout 2023

Entertainment and Gaming – The gambling and gaming industries have seen some record numbers over the last 2 years and so it makes sense that operators are going to want to embrace this as much as possible.

Healthcare – The technology within machine learning and even virtual nurses is something that the industry is likely to want to concentrate on throughout 2023. There are several programmes in place already such as Sensely, so it will be a matter of seeing how they progress and grow next year.

Finance – The analysing of data is one of the biggest advances we’re likely to see within the artificial intelligence finance sector. We are likely to see this grow simply because it is an area where technology can work through data much more swiftly than humans.

Technology – Technology and manufacturing are often industries that are at the forefront of any advances in technology and artificial intelligence is no exception. We’re likely to see continued growth in areas such as automated assembly lines and even intelligent systems that can highlight when a piece of machinery is malfunctioning.

What Can We Expect From AI Technology in the future?

One thing about artificial intelligence is that it has become more accessible over recent years in terms of costs and capabilities. This has helped to drive the evolution of this sector even further as interest in it continues to grow. It is hard to know exactly what we’ll see in terms of this in the future, but we can say that it will continue to grow and evolve across very many industries in ways that we have not yet envisioned. The likes of Mark Zuckerberg are certainly keen for things like Metaverse and augmented reality to grow and lots of this goes hand in hand with artificial technology.

One worry is that artificial technology will grow so many that it will take over too many tasks and therefore reduce workforce numbers. However, when you dig into this a little deeper the work that this technology can do will simply free up human workforces to be able to work within other areas of a business – allowing for businesses to be able to grow much more efficiently and work to the best of their ability, which can only be a good thing.

As the cyber and physical worlds collide and interact, so the defences in each are now integrating with an example this month being the merger between Jazz Networks, a cybersecurity insider threat detection and response company, and Vaion, an end-to-end video security provider to form Ava Security.

Tormod Ree, CEO of Ava Security commented: “The only way to protect against hybrid cyber and physical security threats is to have a solution that can connect the dots across both domains.”

Many of the threats faced come from inside an organisation, with both deliberate actions and errors by staff.  A recent Ponemon “Cost of Insider Threats: Global Report” says that the average cost of an insider risk incident is US$307,111, If it involves a negligent employee or contractor. This average cost almost triples to US$871,686  if it involves an imposter or thief who steals/leaks credentials.

Nick Maxwell, Ava GM UK/MEA, notes that, “It doesn’t just stop there, there is a need to be able to mitigate against hybrid attacks. More and more organisations are trying to address this gap within their risk/resilience/CISO/CSO – it’s been acknowledged that there is a gap in the security posture where physical and cyberattacks need to be correlated, with a single unified approach.”

After winning the US Cyber Command Competition in 2019, Ava has grown significantly and plans to foster further research and development. Its integrated cyber and video solution allows for separate analysis of data from all users, cameras, and servers. It combines a human-centric cyber solution (formerly by Jazz Networks)  with an end-to-end video solution (formerly by Vaion).  The cyber aspect employs a combination of policy, education and machine learning sensors to prevent IP theft and sabotage, improve cyber hygiene, and accelerate threat hunting. The proactive video security solution provides insight including integrated video and audio analytics driven by machine learning algorithms, intuitive installation processes, and a range of smart cameras.

Martin Whittle, co-founder of partner company Ethos Technology in the UK describes the Ava Insider threat solution as a “perfect tool to protect your business, from compliance to company policy enforcement,” adding: “This isn’t just an issue for Law firms. As we all concentrate on an external threat breaching our infrastructure, we lose focus on internal threats from error or malicious behaviour that still needs to be detected and protected against.”

As companies move toward a hybrid workforce structure with employees splitting time between working in-office and remote, organisations must reassess processes to keep IT staff from burning out, while at the same time efficiently managing distributed systems and assets. “You can’t build firewalls around remote employees, businesses must empower and educate staff to make the right choices,” said Ree.
