Eskenzi PR has today announced that the fifth annual Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards are open for nominations. The 2020 awards are a chance to celebrate the people, not products, on the front lines of battling cyber threats – whether that be in the classroom, in law enforcement or within corporate organisations. A new category has been added this year for those helping to keep UK businesses safe through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nominations are open until the 31st of August 2020 and the Unsung Heroes Awards will take place on Wednesday 13th October during a virtual cocktail event.
The Unsung Heroes Awards, started by Eskenzi PR and Smile on Fridays, have been sponsored by KnowBe4, Protiviti and Qualys. The sponsors make it possible for the Unsung Heroes Awards to be a completely free event – free to enter and free to attend, unlike many other industry awards.
“The Unsung Heroes Awards offer a unique opportunity to recognise the people – whether they be customers, colleagues, friends or professors – that are battling behind the scenes to save their organisations or the public from cyber-attacks, fraud and other IT related threats,” said Yvonne Eskenzi, Director of Eskenzi PR and founder of the Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards.
“With the Unsung Heroes Awards, we want to unearth those rising stars in the industry and encourage new talent to join it. Most of all, it’s really about saying “thank you” to all the incredible IT security professionals out there keeping us safe, especially in 2020 as it’s been a turbulent year to say the least!”
The categories are free to enter and now open for nomination until the 31st of August 2020:
Captain Compliance
Godfather/Godmother of Security
Cyber Writer
CISO Supremo
Security Avengers (Best team)
Best Security Awareness Campaign
Security Leader/Mentor
Apprentice/Rising Star
Best Educator
Best ethical hacker/pen-tester
DevSecOps Trailblazer
Data Guardian
COVID Hero (new this year)
“I think it’s really important to support these kinds of efforts. Unsung Heroes Awards recognise the real people in information security, not just the ones you see in the magazines every single time. Not just the once who get put on the news whenever there’s an incident, but the ones who maybe don’t have time to do that but are soldiering away in the background to make the world a safer place. And that’s why these awards have credibility,” said Quentyn Taylor, Director of Information Security EMEA for Canon Europe.
